Do You Facebook?

Facebook has become quite the topic of conversation lately. Many people, instead of asking for contact information, now ask “Are you on Facebook?” And, if you do, you're likely to be “friends” with everyone from teens to senior citizens.

Of the 42 million Facebook users, Houston ranks as the fifth most popular network with over 550,000 users.

Currently the largest social media network, Facebook launched in February 2004 as the brainchild of two Harvard University students. The website is free to users who create profiles where you can post photos and create lists of personal interests. Users can also send public or private messages and join groups pertaining to nearly every interest you can imagine. However, unlike other sites, viewing detailed profile information is dependent upon your privacy settings which can be very liberal or extremely secure - your choice.

Facebook has a number of features with which users may interact. They include the Wall, a space on every user's profile page that allows friends to post messages for the user to see;  Photos, where users can upload albums and photos; and Status, which allows users to inform their friends of their whereabouts and actions.

Fan Pages are all the latest rage on Facebook. If there is a product or service you enjoy, it’s most likely got a Fan Page. In fact, Sugar Creek has its own page. There, users are notified of the latest happenings and services. It's an incredible and valuable place to receive the most up-to-date information.

Signing up is simple. Just visit facebook.com to create an account.
