Come "Tweet" with Sugar Creek

What would you get if you took a blog, instant messenger, and a Facebook and threw them in a blender? Our guess is that you would get something very similar to Twitter: a mini blogging service that lets you update your friends on what you are doing at that moment. Twitter allows posts of only 140 characters, which can be a challenge for those that are long-winded! These messages are then sent out through the web or via cell phone so that your friends can see them.

Why Should I Use Twitter?

Twitter with Sugar Creek Baptisit ChurchTwitter is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family all over the world. You can look at updates quickly and not get wrapped into opening many different web pages or programs.

This tool will allow you to hyperlink URL's so that your followers can see webpages you find interesting. You can also use an application called TwitPic to attach photos.

Once you have signed up and created a user name, you'll notice two things common about the Tweets that you see. When someone is referring directly to another Twitter user, they will refer to them with the "@" sign before their username. For example, @DaveRamseyLIVE will be visible to everyone, but will let readers know that you are referring to Dave Ramsey specifically.

The other symbol you will see is the hashtag "#". This symbol enables topics to be searched more easily. Take the topic of "Olympics", for instance. If you wanted to see what everyone was tweeting about the Olympics, using #Olympics makes that possible.

Twitter is, as defined by Wikipedia....

Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users' updates (known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can send and receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS (receive only), or through applications such as Tweetie, Twitterrific, Twitterfon and Feedalizr. The service is free to use over the web, but using SMS may incur phone services provider fees.
