Power that is Useless:
I recently bought a Craftsman “self-propelled” mower from Sears. It is a beautiful red and starts very easy. You compress a couple of bars, and lightly pull the cord and “whal-la!” it runs. I had only cut part of the yard when I realized I was really breathing hard and already tired. Although this is nothing totally new to an old coot like me, I stopped for a second and realized that the “power drive” was not engaged! I was providing the forward power. Once started, I needed to keep both bars compressed to make the wheels provide the forward power. The power drive was there all along, I simply did not take advantage of it because (1) I did not read the directions (typical guy thing) and (2) I did not engage the power system.
Many of us do the same thing in our spiritual lives. Gal. 5:25 says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Too often we walk around defeated, over-anxious, depressed, worried, clueless, tired, and grouchy. If we are truly born-again Christians/disciples of Christ, then we have the Holy Spirit within us, but we do not involve the Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit does not just “take over”. John 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. We have the first move in every choice. We can do it our way, or yield to the Spirit. Remember, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is death” Prov. 16:25
Ok, so how do we take advantage of the Spirit of God? How do we engage the power drive that is within us? There are two ways: #1. Read the instruction book. John 6:63-64 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Jesus, the WORD made flesh, gave us His Words in an instruction book. “Basic information before leaving earth” B.I.B.L.E. Read it with the purpose of hearing God speak to you and I promise……..YOU WILL!
#2. Here is the crucial part; Ask the Spirit of God to guide you. John 16:12-14 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. What’s crucial about this? Your heart condition. God’s promises are always good and fully carried out (1) IF, you have been obedient and (2) WHEN you are in the right relationship with the Father and Son.
John 14:21…He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest ( reveal ) Myself to him.”
Stop trying to do life on your own. Use the power that is readily available to you right now. When your life is all it should be with Christ you will experience power the like you have never known in Christ….Isa 30:21..Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isa 40:31.but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
