Matthew 6:10 …your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

James 4:2-3 You do not have because you do not askYou ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

Habakkuk 3:2 Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

1. Kingdom Prayers can be prayed by everyday, ordinary people

James 5:17-18  Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! 18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.

2. Kingdom Prayers are unwilling to accept status quo

A. Habakkuk 1:1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. (ASV)

B. Nehemiah 1:3-4 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

C. Romans 9:1 I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit— I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.

3. Kingdom prayers are confident in who God is and what he can do

A. Habakkuk 3:2 Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known;

B. 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight.

4. Kingdom Prayers stand in the gap for someone else

A. Jeremiah 29:7 Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

B. 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

C. 2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

D. Ezekiel 22:30 I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.

5. Kingdom Prayers are persistent prayers

Habakkuk 3:17-19  Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. 19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.

Action Steps I Will Take This Week Are…

  • I will enlarge the scope of my prayer to include others around me, the pressing needs in my church and in my world.
  • I will pray every day for at least one person who does not know Jesus as their savior.
  • I will be persistent in praying Kingdom Prayers even if I don’t see results right away.
