Message

  • The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. John 10:10 (AMP)
    • 1 Timothy 6:17-19  “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant or to put their hope in wealth which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to … be generous and willing to share. In this way, they will take hold of the life that is truly life.”
    • 2 Corinthians 9:7  “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
    • Matthew 6:21  “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
    • If we are to practice tithing, why don’t we follow all of the Old Testament laws?
  • Civil laws – specific to Old Testament Israel
  • Ceremonial laws – sacrificial system
  • Moral laws – Reflected God’s character
  • What does this have to do with tithing?
  • Leviticus 27:30 “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.”
  • Malachi 3:8, 10  Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings.  10 Bring the whole tithe to the storehouse.”
  • Matthew 23:23 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens,  but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.” (NLT)
  • Biblical benefits of tithing and generosity
  • “A generous person will be blessed.” Proverbs 22:9
  • “One gives freely, yet grows richer, another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.” Proverbs 11:24
  • “Don’t forgot to do good and share with those in need. These are sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16
  • “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
  • “Those who give to the poor will lack nothing…” Proverbs 28:27
  • “They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing.” Psalm 37:26
  • “Good will come to those who are generous.” Psalm 112:5
  • “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
  • “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” Malachi 3:10 (NIV)
  • “I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:11 (ESV)
