Hebrews 10:19-22

Dr. Mark S. Hartman, Lead Pastor

INTRODUCTION

The resurrection of Jesus demonstrated that everything Jesus said about God, about Himself, about salvation and our need for Him was absolutely true.

1. THROUGH JESUS, OUR SEPARATION FROM GOD HAS BEEN REMOVED.

A. John 19:30  When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”  With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

B. Matthew 27:51  At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split.

C. Because of what had just happened on the cross at the death of Jesus, God tore open the veil that had separated us from Him.

D. Romans 3:23  For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

E. 1 John 4:10  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us.

F. Exodus 26:31  You shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen; it shall be made with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman.

G. The veil in the Temple represented the separation between God and us.

2. THROUGH JESUS, WE CAN HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

A. Hebrews 10:19-20  And so, dear brothers, now we may walk right into the very Holy of Holies, where God is, because of the blood of Jesus. 20 This is the fresh, new, life-giving way that Christ has opened up for us by tearing the curtain — his human body — to let us into the Holy Presence of God.  (TLB)

B. Romans 10:9  If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  (NLT)

At that moment of salvation, you become a child of God.

C. Hebrews 10:21-22  And since this great High Priest of ours (Jesus) rules over God’s household (the family of God), 22 let us go right into God Himself, with true hearts fully trusting Him to receive us because we have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean and because our bodies have been washed with pure water. (TLB)

And since Jesus, who is our High Priest, is our Lord and Savior and has brought us into the family of God, we can go right into the Presence of God with total confidence that God will receive us, not because of our goodness but because of what the blood of Jesus on the cross did for us.  His blood bought our forgiveness and now God accepts us because of Christ who lives in us.  Christ lives in us because we have accepted Him as our Savior, and we have demonstrated that fact through baptism. (Mark’s paraphrase of Hebrews 10:21-22)
