INTRODUCTION
1 John 5:14-15  Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

1. I CAN KNOW GOD’S WILL BY YIELDING TO GOD’S WORD.

A. Psalm 119:105  Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

B. 1 Thessalonians 4:3  It is God’s will …that you should avoid sexual immorality;

C. Matthew 7:12  Do unto others the way you want them to do to you.

2. I CAN KNOW GOD’S WILL BY OBTAINING WISE COUNSEL.

A. Proverbs 1:5  A wise man will hear and increase in learning,  And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.

B. Proverbs 15:22  Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

3. I CAN DISCOVER GOD’S WILL THROUGH GODLY COMMON SENSE THROUGH PROVERBS.

A. James 1:5  But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

B. What Proverbs will do for you is show you how to better manage your money.  It will show you how to slow down your spending.  It will show you how to treat others in a right, fair and just way.  It will show you better time management, how to be a better employee, how to be a better boss, how to be better married.  There are some things you could do to treat your spouse better and you will find those things in Proverbs.  It will show you how to treat your parents better, your children better, your neighbor better.  Proverbs will show you how to slow down your life and actually enjoy living.  Every day, look for one key idea – only one – that  you can do better that day.  If you do this for several months, new patterns will emerge that will cause you to live better by Godly common sense.

4. FOLLOWING THE WILL OF GOD IS USUALLY MORE ABOUT A PATH THAN A DECISION.

A. The Bible is about helping us get on the right path.

B. Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  6 in all your ways submit to God, and He will make your paths straight.

C. There may be a key moment that God gives me a “Rhema.”  A Rhema is a Word from God for a particular moment that I need.
Acts 13:2  While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Paul for the work to which I have called them.”

D. 1 John 4:1  Dear ones, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Not everything that comes to mind, is from God.  Be careful when you say, “God told me.”

1. Does it match God’s Word?

2. Does it match the direction God has established for your life?

3. Keep it to yourself and let time “test the spirits”.

5. WHEN I CAN’T DISCOVER GOD’S WILL, I CAN TRUST THE HOLY SPIRIT TO PRAY FOR ME.

Romans 8:26-27  In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  27 And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
