Dr. Mark S. Hartman, Lead Pastor

1. THE HEAVENLY EXISTENCE OF Jesus CHRIST.   (Philippians 2:5-6)

A. Philippians 2:5-6  Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:  6 Who, being in very nature God…

“… Jesus had always been God by nature …”  Phillips translation.

B. John 1:1-3,14  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2 He was in the beginning with God.  3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.   14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

C. Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born to us, unto us a Son is given.  The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NLT)

D. The one thing that separates true Christianity from a false cult is that a cult will ultimately deny that there is only one true God who has shown Himself as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

E. Colossians 1:15-16a  Christ is the exact likeness of the unseen God.  He existed before God made anything at all, and in fact, 16a Christ Himself is the Creator who made everything in heaven and earth… (TLB)

2. GOD THE SON HUMBLED HIMSELF TO BECOME A MAN.

A. Philippians 2:7 …but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

B. John 1:14  And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1. He was born like us.

2. He grew like us.

Luke 2:52  Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.

3. He was tempted like us.

Hebrews 4:15  He was tempted in all points like as we, yet without sin.

4. He hurt like us.

Matthew 26:38  My sorrow is so great it almost crushes Me.

3. JESUS BECAME OUR SAVIOR ON THE CROSS.  (Philippians 2:8)

A. Philippians 2:8-9  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

B. The Bible says He died on the cross for two reasons:

1. To demonstrate God’s love.

a. Romans 5:8  God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

b. John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have ever lasting life.

2. To pay for our sins.

a. Romans 6:23  The wages of sin is death.  But  … the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

b. I Peter 2:24  He personally carried the load of our sins in His own body when He died on the cross, so that we can be finished with sin and live a good life. (TLB)

4. Jesus IS KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  (Philippians 2:9-11)

A. Philippians 2:9-11  Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name, which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

B. Romans 10:9  If you confess with your mouth, “JESUS IS LORD”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
