Churches that stay inwardly focused always shrivel up die. Churches who are outwardly focused, are always blessed by God.
1. PROMISE # 1 : JESUS WILL BE WITH HIS CHURCH EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. (ACTS 1:3-5)
A. After the resurrection, Jesus stayed with His disciples for forty days.
Acts 1:3 After Jesus’ suffering (crucifixion), He showed Himself to these men (the disciples) and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
The resurrection of Jesus is the core of the Christian faith and the foundation of the church. If you don’t get that right everything else falls. It is the one truth that changed everything.
The Case For Christ (Lee Strobel) and The Case For The Resurrection of Jesus (Gary Habermas)
B. Jesus reminded them that after He ascends back into heaven, God the Holy Spirit will come to indwell them.
C. Acts 1:5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
D. John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will bein you.
E. Matthew 28:20b And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (NLT)
F. Matthew 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock (this profession of faith by Peter) I will build My church, and the gates of Hell will not overcome it. (NIV)
2. PROMISE #2 : AS THE WORLD REACHES ITS END, JESUS WILL COME BACK FOR HIS CHURCH. (ACTS 1:6-11)
A.Acts 1:6-7 So when they met together, they asked Him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority.”
B. Acts 1:9-11 After Jesus said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.” (NIV)
C. Ephesians 1:9-10 God has told us His secret reason for sending Christ, a plan He decided on in mercy long ago; 10 and this was His purpose: that when the time is ripe He will gather us all together from wherever we are–in heaven or on earth–to be with Him in Christ forever. (TLB)
D. I know My God reigns and He has a plan and part of that plan is that the right time, Jesus will return.
E. John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (NKJV)
