A. Romans 14:10-12  You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.  11  It is written: ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’  12  So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

B. 2 Corinthians 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

1. We must all appear before the Judgment Seat.

2. Christ Himself will be the judge.

3. The purpose of the judgment is to evaluate our lives.

a. The purpose of the Christian’s Judgment is not to determine who is saved and who is not.

1. John 5:24:  I’ll tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

2. Romans 8:1  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

b. The purpose of this event is to determine our rewards.

2 Corinthians 5:10  For we must all appear before the Judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body whether good or bad.

c. We are saved by faith, but we are rewarded according to our deeds.

A. We will be judged according to how faithful we were with what God gave us.

1. 1 Corinthians 4:1-2  So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.  2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

2. Our “trust” that God has given us is our gifts, abilities, ministries, and opportunities.

B. We will be judged according to the motives we had for service.

1. Matthew 6:1-4  Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them.  If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.  So, when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men.  I tell you the truth, they have received  their reward in full.  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret.  Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

2. I Corinthians 4:5  Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes.  He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts.  At that time each will receive his praise from God.

C. We will be judged about how we treated others.

1. Luke 6:35-36  Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for He is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.  36 You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. (NLT)

2. Matthew 16:27  For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will reward each person according to what he has done.

D. We will be judged according to our obedience in sharing Christ with others.

1. Ezekiel 3:17-18  Son of man, I have made you a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore, hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.  18 When I say unto the wicked, You shall surely die; and you give him not warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hands.

2. Acts 20:26-27  Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.  27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.

A. I Corinthians 3:11-15  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.  If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light.  It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work.  If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.  If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

B. Matthew 6:19-21  Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

4. What We Believe About Our Future SHOULD CONTROL How We LIVE Our Present.
