CHRISTMAS IS… Peace

1. THE PROMISE WAS THAT THE PRESENCE OF JESUS WOULD BRING US PEACE.

A. Isaiah 9:6-7 For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of His ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen! (NLT)

B. The word “peace” in the Hebrew language is “Shalom.” The word actually means to make something that is broken “whole again.” To take something that has been lost to now be found. The word shalom means to be safe, to be at ease in your mind, body and soul.

C. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (NIV)

D. Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (NIV)

2. JESUS BRINGS US PEACE WITH GOD.

A. Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

B. Romans 3:10-18 As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous – not even one. 11 No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. 12 All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one. 13 Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies. Snake venom drips from their lips. 14 Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. 15 They rush to commit murder. 16 Destruction and misery always follow them. 17 They don’t know where to find peace. 18 They have no fear of God at all.” (NLT2)

C. Romans 8:7 For the sinful nature (that is inside all of us) is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. (NLT)

D. Romans 5:10 For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! (NIV)

3. JESUS BRINGS US PEACE WITH OURSELVES.

A. When God forgives us, He totally forgives us.

Hebrews 10:19-22 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

B. When Jesus saved me, I became a child of Almighty God.

C. As Prince of Peace, Jesus is the One who can bring peace inside your soul.

4. JESUS BRINGS US PEACE WITH OTHERS.

A. Ephesians 4:32  Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

B. We can’t feel our way into doing hard things. We have to do our way into feeling.

1. Choose to be kind to others even when you don’t want to be.

2. Choose to be tenderhearted.

3. Choose to forgive the persons in your life who hurt you not because they deserve but because God forgave you when you didn’t deserve it.
