  • When following Christ becomes tough, we want to give up and ask ourselves:
    • Am I missing out?
    • Is it worth it?
  • Past heroes of the faith endured by trusting in God’s future promises.

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.  (NIV)

  • Their faith was anchored in the promises God had made; our faith is anchored in the promises God has kept.

Hebrews 11:39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. 40 God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

  • Faith is our response to God’s faithfulness.
  • Leaning on God is not the same as trusting in God.
  • Trust always requires surrendering control.

Next Steps

  • Avoid distractions and sin because they will weigh down your faith.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us…  (CSB)

  • Reset your attention on your prize rather than your problem.

Hebrews 12:1Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2 keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

  • Constantly remind yourself of Jesus’ example.

Hebrews 12:3 For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.
