July 3 – 6, 2019
It’s once again planning time for Urban Camp! Last year God moved in a powerful way to impact the lives of the young people in our charge as we celebrated 27 years of ministry. Your commitment to facilitate as a ministry partner or Huddle Leader is an essential element in making connections with campers. We pray that God will use you in His perfect way to make Urban Camp | 2019 a life changing experience for the children God will send for us to serve!
This year’s theme is “KNOWN”! Anchor scripture is “If anyone loves God, he is known by God” 1 Corinthians 8:3.
We have not done one thing and we cannot do one thing to earn the love of God. In fact, the opposite is true, God has never asked that we earn His love.
God has reached down and grabbed His enemies and made them His friends. John Piper writes, “Deeper than knowing God is being known by God. What defines us as Christians is not most profoundly that we have come to know Him but that He took note of us and made us His own.”
What does this truth mean? As believers in Christ Jesus, God knows and loved us before the foundation of the world. He is not unaware of the circumstances of today’s culture, and in our individual lives. We have the King of kings who has set His affection on us. He knows us and cares for us, and yet we go looking for validity, comfort, acknowledgement and acceptance in other places.
Looking for comfort in things of this world is an aimless pursuit. It would be like Cinderella being pursued by the prince but, leaving the party to make herself known to someone else. It would be ridiculous. But this is what we do when we spend our time searching for significance in the things of this world.
Looking for comfort in the things in this world is limited. Some things are good things, but sometimes, good things will fail you. Looking for comfort in social media, hobbies and friends is not the greatest fulfillment.
We pray our focus at camp will equip campers to understand the truth of God’s Word; that they are in fact known by the God of love and set apart for His purpose!
Day One | Set Apart – John 15:19 | “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you”
Day Two | Loved – Romans 5:8 | “But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
Day Three | Known – John 10:27 | “The sheep that are My own hear My voice and listen to Me; I know them, and they follow Me”
As we embark on our twenty eighth year of Urban Camp ministry, we excited to see how God will minister His love and truth during UC 2019! During the summer of 2019, we continue all campers, grades 4th – 10th attending camp collectively. However, campers will continue to engage in separate programming based on age configurations and gender.
Meaning, 4th – 6th grade campers will participate in our Coed Youth Program, while 7th – 10th grade campers participate separately, in our Advanced Girls Program and our Advanced Boys Program. Both programs will continue to share the same venue, but function with independent schedules, activities, huddle sessions, Keynote Speakers, and Worship.
We will return to Carolina Creek Christian – Creekside camp venue, we are excited to see how God will move and transform the lives of each camper. We look forward to hearing God’s Word shared in the context of unconditional love. We look forward to seeing the Holy Spirit at work, as the truth of God’s word is shared with campers this summer.
