Part 4 – Why Your Friends Need You (and Vice Versa)
1 Thessalonians 5:11

INTRODUCTION

Romans 15:2  We who are strong in the faith ought to help the weak in order to build them up in the faith.

I Thessalonians 5:11  Encourage one another and build each other up.

Ecclesiastes 4:9, 12a  Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.  12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. (NLT)

1. FRIENDS HELP EACH OTHER REACH THEIR POTENTIAL.

I Thessalonians 5:11  Encourage one another and build each other up.

2. friends help each other GET THROUGH the hard times of their life.

A. Romans 15:2  We who are strong in the faith ought to help the weak in order to build them up in the faith.

B. I Thessalonians 5:11  Encourage one another and build each other up.

3. friends earn the privilege to speak into the lives of others, even if it hurts.

A. Proverbs 27:5-6  Open rebuke is better than secret love.  6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

B. A real friend walks in when other people walk out.

C. When we are trying to help someone, the motive of our confrontation is so that the other person can succeed.

D. Psalm 141:5  A good man will rebuke me in kindness.

E. Proverbs 25:15  Be patient and you will finally win, for a soft tongue can break hard bones.

F. Proverbs 15:23,28  Everyone enjoys giving good advice, and how wonderful it is to be able to say the right thing at the right time!  28 A good man thinks before he speaks; the evil man pours out his evil words without a thought.

4. friends help each other MAKE PEACE WITH GOD.

A. 2 Corinthians 5:19-20  For God was in Christ, restoring the world to Himself, no longer counting men’s sins against them but blotting them out. This is the wonderful message He has given us to tell others.  20 We are Christ’s ambassadors. God is using us to speak to you: we beg you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, receive the love He offers you – be reconciled to God. (TLB)
