INTRODUCTION

Christianity teaches that it is God who initiates peace with us, not the other way around.

We are saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ not by any other thing we do.

1. A CHANGED PAUL DOES THE UNEXPECTED.

Paul preached a very simple message of salvation by the grace of God through faith in Christ and nothing else.

2. YOU CAN BE FREED BY GRACE.

A. Galatians 1:1-2  Paul, an apostle–sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead — 2 and all the brothers with me, To the churches in Galatia:

1. A first century Christian Apostle was a person with great authority in the early church.  That person had to meet three criteria:

a. The person had to be an eyewitness of the resurrected Christ.

b. The person had to be able to perform actual miracles through the Name and Power of Jesus.

c. The person had to be hand selected by Christ for this position.

2. Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (NLT)

B. Galatians 1:3  Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

1. Grace is God giving to us something we don’t deserve.

2. Only when we come to understand His grace toward us can we ever come to peace with God.  God’s grace brings peace!

3. Romans 5:1  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,  (NIV)

4. Understanding grace brings peace…with God, with ourselves and with others.

C. Galatians 1:3-4  Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, (NIV)

We cannot save ourselves.  We need a Savior to save us.

D. Galatians 1:4-5  …who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen!  (NIV)

E. John 8:32  You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.  (NLT)

No matter what our situation is, our true freedom or our bondage is a condition of our heart not our surroundings.

3. DON’T LET ANYONE STEAL YOUR FREEDOM!

A. Galatians 1:6-9  I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the One who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel– 7 which is really no gospel at all.  Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.  8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!  9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!  (NIV)

B. We aren’t working for our salvation we are working from our salvation.
