INTRODUCTION
When we don’t care who gets the credit we have teamwork.
Our church is meant to work like a team. We have many super-talented people in our church, but we refuse to have all-stars. What we want is the power of the Holy Spirit to so infuse our church that everything is for His Glory and nothing for our own.
1. WE MUST SUPPORT EACH OTHER AS OUR SPIRITUAL FAMILY.
Galatians 6:1-2 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. (NLT2)
STEP ONE – Make sure that my life is right before God before I begin trying to rescue someone else.
The person whose life is clean and whose walk with Christ is authentic is in a position to help a wayward brother be restored.
STEP TWO – We must remember that a right attitude is even more important than right words.
1. Galatians 6:1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. (NLT2)
2. The first characteristic of a right attitude is gentleness.
3. The second characteristic of a right attitude is a realistic view of my own weaknesses.
STEP THREE – We must be willing to get involved in the person’s life.
1. Galatians 6:1-2 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. 2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. (NLT2)
2. Part of restoring a person is bending down and helping to shoulder some of the load.
Will we shoot our own wounded, or will we rescue them and heal them?
2. INVEST IN OTHERS AROUND YOU BY HELPING TO MEET THEIR NEEDS AND NOT JUST YOUR OWN. (Galatians 6:7-10)
A. Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
B. Galatians 6:9-10 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
C. Matthew 6:19–21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,” Jesus taught, “where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
D. Galatians 6:9,10 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
E. Matthew 6:3 But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. 4 Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. (NLT)
