INTRODUCTION

Galatians 1:11-13  I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. 13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.

1. WHAT WAS PAUL LIKE BEFORE HE WAS SAVED?  (13-15)

A. Galatians 1:13-15  For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.  14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles,…

B. Acts 22:4  I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison,   (NIV)

C. Acts 26:11  Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme.  In my obsession against them, I even went to foreign cities to persecute them.  (NIV)

D. Acts 9:3-5  As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?” 5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.  “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” He replied.  (NIV)

1. When someone persecutes a Christ follower, they are actually persecuting Jesus.

2. There is no one more persistent in pursuing an unbeliever to save him or her than is the Lord.

3. No matter who you are or what you have done, God loves you and wants you to be His child.  There is no such thing as an un-savable person.

2. HOW DID PAUL GET SAVED?

A. Galatians 1:15-16  But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by His Grace, was pleased 16 to reveal His Son to me…  (NIV)

B. Romans 10:9-10  That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.  (NIV)

3. WHAT HAPPENED AFTER CHRIST SAVED PAUL?

A. Galatians 1:11-12  I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.  12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

B. Galatians 1:16b-24  I did not consult any man, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.  18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days.  19 I saw none of the other apostles–only James, the Lord’s brother.  20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.  21 Later I went to Syria and Cilicia. 22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. 23 They only heard the report: ‘The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’  24 And they praised God because of me.  (NIV)
