Introduction

My Image of God shapes my Interaction with God.

This means whatever I believe about God will shape how I behave toward God.

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

John 14: 6-11  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.[d] From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. (ESV)

Misrepresented Images of The Father

  • Transactional Father
    • If I am Good, God is good
  • Present but Disconnected Father
    • God will take care of my needs but not my wants, and He doesn’t want an intimate relationship with me
  • Selfish Father
    • God is ONLY concerned that I worship him and follow his rules for HIS OWN fulfillment
  • Father Without a Standard
    • God is completely unconcerned about my day-to-day actions as long as I don’t do anything REALLY bad

Four of the Attributes of The Father

  • Omniscient – He Is All Knowing, All the Time

a. 1 John 3:20  For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. (ESV)

b. Luke 12 6-7  6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies. And not one of them is forgotten before God.  7 Why,  even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

c. THIS MATTERS BECAUSE HE COMPLETELY KNOWS AND CARES

  • Omnipresent – The Father is Always Present, All the Time

a. Genesis 1:1  In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

b. Colossians 1:17  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
