WHO IS THIS MAN CALLED JESUS?

  • Matthew 16:13  When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the son of man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say; Elijah, still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But what about you?” He asked. ‘Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

1. The Birth of Jesus

  • John 1:1-4,14  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  • John 8:58  “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
  • John 17:5  Now, Father, glorify me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

2. The Life of Jesus

  • Luke 2:47-51  Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them. Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them.
  • John 1:29  Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
  • Mark 1:11  You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.

3. What did Jesus say about Himself

  • John 14:6  I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

4. The Death of Jesus

  • Matthew 27:46  My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

5. The Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus

  • Philippians 2:10-11  So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  • Hebrews 7:25  Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
  • 1 John 2:1-2  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
  • John 14:1-3  Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
