Part 4 – Three In One

There is only
One God who exists as three different persons, and each person is equally God.

1.  THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD.

A. The Old Testament teaches there is only one God.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Deuteronomy 6:4

I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me, that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other. Isaiah 45:5-6

B. Jesus taught there is only one God.

Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Mark 12:29

C. The Apostles taught there is only one God.

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5

You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! James 2:19

2. God Exists in Three Persons

A. The Bible teaches that the Father is God.

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…” Matthew 6:9

And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. John 17:11

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

God the Father had a plan for our lives before we were born.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him…  Ephesians 1:3-4

B. The Bible also teaches that the Son is God

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1,14

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 1 Corinthians 5:21

God the Son demonstrated God’s love for us by dying in our place.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

C. The Bible also teaches that the Holy Spirit is God.

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:2

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” Acts 5:3-4.

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:7

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

God The Spirit guarantees us that, in Christ, God is with us and we have the power to live for His glory.

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14

3. All three persons of the Trinity are equally God.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”  Genesis 1:26a

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reaches out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—”  Genesis 3:22

And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him, and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”  Matthew 3:16-17

We are human beings, but we are all different persons. I am a human being like you, but I am also Ender Palencia. The what is human, the who is Ender. God is one being. He is God as a being. But He is three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the three are not the same. Maybe this GRAPHIC will help you visualize it.}

Each person of the Trinity plays an important role in God’s amazing plan for our redemption.
