INTRODUCTION

Romans 5:3-5  We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to endure.  4 And endurance develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our hope.  5 And this expectation will not disappoint us.  For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.

1. ACCEPT THAT DIFFICULT TIMES WILL ALWAYS BE A PART OF OUR LIFE.  (Romans 5:3)

A. Romans 5:3  We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials…

B. 2 Corinthians 11:24-28  Five times I received from the Jewish authorities the forty lashes minus one.  25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,  26 I have been constantly on the move.  I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles: in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers.  27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep;  I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food;  I have been cold and naked.  28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.

2. SEE YOUR PROBLEMS AS TOOLS TO MAKE YOU MENTALLY TOUGH.  (Romans 5:3)

A. Romans 5:3  We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to endure.

B. God wants to turn your panic into confidence.

C. Trust means, “to lean your entire weight upon.”

D. Most of our hurt comes from our reaction to the problem, not the problem itself.

3. SEE YOUR PROBLEMS AS CHARACTER BUILDERS.

A. Romans 5:3-4  We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to endure.  4 And endurance develops strength of character in us…

B. Every time we make right choices in pressure situations, we grow character.

C. Hebrews 5:8-9  Even though Jesus was God’s Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered.  9 In this way, God qualified Him as a perfect High Priest, and He became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him.

D. The story of what makes your life great is about the difficulties you overcame to be able to fully use the talents God gave you.

4. SEE THE POSITIVE OVERALL END TO THE PROCESS.

B. When we respond correctly to problems, we will not be disappointed with the results.  We will not be disappointed with what God does through them.

C. We need to begin to make monuments out of our struggles.
