INTRODUCTION

Philippians 4:6-8  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

1. CHOOSE TO SEE WORRY AS AN ENEMY YOU CAN AND WILL ELIMINATE FROM YOUR LIFE.  (Philippians 4:6)

A. Philippians 4:6  Be anxious for nothing.

B. We can eliminate worry from our life if we choose to do so.

C. Worry is assuming responsibility over something that is God’s responsibility.

D. Dr. Walter Calvert did a study on worry:

1. 40% never happen

2. 30% things in the past that you cannot do a thing about.

3. 12% about your health that aren’t true.

4. 10% worries that exaggerates the problem

5. 8% about legitimate concerns

(Study Done by Dr. Walter Calvert, National Science Foundation)

E. It’s the last 8% that are the real challenges and God has already told you, He will meet your need.

F. The Bible presents worry as a learned behavior.  If it can be learned it can also be unlearned.

2. CHOOSE TO WAIT ON GOD.

A. Isaiah 40:31  But, those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.

B. Psalm 27:14  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

C. To wait on the Lord means to be still.  It means to stop fighting, stop running, stop panicking, stop struggling.

Psalm 46:10  Be still and know that I am God.

D. Philippians 4:6  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

E. Begin praying about everything.  (Philippians 4:6)

1. “If it is big enough to worry about, it is big enough to pray about.”

2. 1 Peter 5:7  Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you.

3. According to a life insurance study, people who attend church at least once a week live on the average 5.7 years longer than the general public.

F. Be thankful for what you already have.  (Philippians 4:6)

1. Philippians 4:6  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

2. Having a grateful attitude actually increases your immune system.

3. Gratitude gets the focus off our problems and gets the focus on the benefits in our life.  The end result is that our stress level goes down and our peace of mind goes up.

4. Start thanking God on a regular basis, for everything good that comes into your life.

5. James 1:17  Every good gift, and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights…

6. Start thanking God on a regular basis, in every difficult situation that comes into your life.

G. Bring your thoughts under control.

1. Philippians 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

2. Proverbs 23:7  As a man thinks in his heart, so he is.

3. What dominates our thinking decides our attitude and our level of peace.

4. Philippians 4:8  And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.  Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.  Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  (NLT2)

3. CHOOSING TO WAIT, NOT WORRY BRINGS PEACE OF MIND. (Philippians 4:7)

A. Philippians 4:7  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

B. Isaiah 26:3-4  You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You.  4 Trust in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: (KJV)

C. When you wait on the Lord, God has promised to meet your needs in His timing and in His way.
