INTRODUCTION

Jude 14-15  Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men:  “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of His holy ones 15 to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

1. THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT JESUS IS COMING BACK.

A. Genesis 5:24  Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. (NIV)

B. Hebrews 11:5  By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

C. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14  Brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.  14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. (NIV)

D. Matthew 16:27  For the Son of Man will come with His angels in the Glory of His Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.  (NLT)

E. Acts 17:31  For God has set a day for judging the world with justice by the One He has appointed, and He proved to everyone who this is by raising Jesus from the dead. (NLT)

F. Jude 15 says, that Jesus is coming back to judge everyone.

2. CHRIST FOLLOWERS WILL HAVE OUR TIME OF JUDGMENT.

A. 2 Corinthians 5:10  For we must all appear before the Judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body whether good or bad.

The “bema” was the place where the winners of the Olympics in that day were rewarded.

B. Romans 8:1  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

C. We are saved by faith, but we are rewarded according to our deeds.

D. There are at least three things in a believer’s life that will be judged.

1. We will be judged according to how faithful we were with what God gave us.

a. 1 Corinthians 4:1-2  So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.  2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

b. A trust is something that belongs to God but which has been loaned to you to use for God.

c. God put you on this earth to be an influence for Christ and He put you in this church to minister and serve others.

d. One day we will be accountable to Christ for what we did with what He gave us.

2. We will be judged according to the purity of our life.

a. Matthew 5:8  Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

b. Psalm 24:3-4  Who may ascend the hill of the LORD?  Who may stand in His holy place?  4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart…

c. Psalm 119:9  How shall a person cleanse his/her ways? By doing what God says in His Word.

d. How much are you living your life for Christ?

3. We will be judged according to our faithfulness in sharing Christ with others.

a. Ezekiel 3:17-18  Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.  18 When I say to a wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood.  (NIV)

b. Acts 20:26-27  Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.  27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.  (Paul)

3. JESUS WILL ALSO JUDGE EVERY PERSON WHO HAS REJECTED HIM.

A. Jude 15  (Christ is coming) to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.

B. Some of the New Testament passages that address the eternal separation from God are found in these places:  Matthew 12:36; 25:31-46; Luke 12:48; Romans 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians 3:12-15; 5:5; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Galatians 6:7; Colossians 3:24-25; Revelation 6-20

C. Jesus describes the place called hell as a place of physical, emotional, spiritual and relational suffering:  Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 20; 11-15; Revelation 14:9-11

D. Revelation 20:11-15  Then I saw a Great White Throne and Him who was seated on it.  Earth and sky fled from His presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.  Another book was opened, which is the book of life.  The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (NIV)

E. Receive Jesus Christ as your Savior today!

F. Jude 17-18  But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.  18 They said to you, ‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.’

G. 2 Peter 3:3-8  First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.  4 They will say, ‘Where is this “coming” he promised?  Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.’  5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.  6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.  7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.  8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends:  With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.  (NIV)

Action Points:

  • I will live my life going forward with the end in mind.
  • When I see Jesus, I want to be found faithfully following Him.
  • I will share Christ with others I know who do not know Jesus.
