1 Samuel 16:11-13 Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.” 12 So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.” 13 So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.

1 Samuel 17:13-15 Jesse’s three oldest sons—Eliab, Abinadab, and Shimea—had already joined Saul’s army to fight the Philistines. 14 David was the youngest son. David’s three oldest brothers stayed with Saul’s army, 15 but David went back and forth so he could help his father with the sheep in Bethlehem.

FIVE THINGS CULTIVATED BY THE MUNDANE:

1. Calling – What am I currently shepherding?

2. Character – What habits am I currently building?

3. Competency –What lessons am I continually learning?

4. Community – Where am I currently serving?

5. Contentment – What am I not appreciating?

BOTTOM LINE: MATURITY IS REALIZING THAT THE MUNDANE IS MIRACULOUS

Galatians 6:9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
