1. GOD GIVES US MONEY TO MEET OUR NEEDS BUT WARNS US ABOUT THE TRAPS. (1 Timothy 6:8-10)
A. 1 Timothy 6:8-10 If we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. 9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (NLT)
B. The LOVE of money is what the Bible says is evil.
C. 1 Timothy 6:9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
TRAP 1: Having more money & things will make me happier.
Ecclesiastes 5:10 Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. (NIV)
TRAP 2: Having more money will make my life more successful.
Luke 12:15 Don’t always be wishing for what you don’t have, for real life and real living are not related to how rich we are. (Jesus)
TRAP 3: My family is better off having more money.
1. Coming to a place in which our personal contentment is not connected to money is the greatest place of peace and well-being we ever imagined. Teaching our children this truth can rescue them from the turmoil of a terrible rat race throughout their adult life.
2. 1 Timothy 6:6 …Godliness with contentment is great gain. (NKJV)
2. GOD WANTS TO BE THE SOURCE OF OUR LIFE. (1 Timothy 6:17-19)
A. 1 Timothy 6:17-18 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but instead to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. (NIV)
B. 1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present world…
C. 1 Timothy 6:18 Command those who are rich to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
Generosity changes how we view money and brings balance to our lives.
D. Proverbs 3:9 Honor the Lord by giving Him the first part of all your income.
Deuteronomy 14:23 The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives. (TLB)
E. Alone you can make an impact, but together, we are changing our world, through Christ!
F. 1 Timothy 6:19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
