INTRODUCTION

Luke 19:29-35 As Jesus approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it.’ 32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as Jesus had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.” 35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 1. THE IMPACT OF “UNDER THE RADAR” BELIEVERS. (Luke 19:30-31)

A. Luke 19:30-31 Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it.’

B. One of the remarkable things about being a Christian is being involved and instrumental in the plan and will of God, even if our role is relatively unknown in the whole scheme of things.

2. JESUS UNVEILS HIS IDENTITY AS THE KING.

A. John 12:14-15 Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written, ‘Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.’

B. Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter o Zion; shout, O Daughter of Jerusalem; behold, they King come unto you; He is just, and having salvation; lowly, riding upon a donkey and upon a colt, the foal of a donkey.

C. Jesus knew it was time to be recognized as the Messiah, the King of Israel.

    1. Daniel 9:24-27 Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy. 25 Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler comes, there will be seven ‘sevens’, and sixty two ‘sevens’. It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.

D. Because Jesus is God’s promise kept for us, you can count on God to fulfill the promises He has made to you.

3. WORSHIP IS THE PROPER RESPONSE TO THE KING. (Luke 19:36-40)

A. Luke 19:36-38 And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road. 37 Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38 saying: ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’ (NKJV)

B. Matthew 21:9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!

C. The word Hosanna means “save now.”

D. When you come to Jesus for who He is, He won’t meet your expectations, He will exceed them even if you don’t understand it at the time.
