DEFINING A CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE

Psalm 1:1  Blessed is the one who ___________________ walk in step with the wicked or ______________ in the way that sinners take or _________ in the company of mockers.

Psalm 1:2-3  …but whose _________________ is in the law of the Lord, and who ___________________ on his law ______ ______ ____________. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.

Acts 2:42  They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

STEP ONE – FIND GOD IN ______ THINGS.

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)

Ephesians 4:17-24  With the Lord’s authority let me say this: Live no longer as the ungodly do, for they are hopelessly confused.  18 Their closed minds are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against him.  19 They don’t care anymore about right and wrong, and they have given themselves over to immoral ways.  Their lives are filled with all kinds of impurity and greed.  20 But that isn’t what you were taught when you learned about Christ.  21 Since you have heard all about him and have learned the truth that is in Jesus,  22 throw off your old evil nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and through, full of lust and deception.  23 Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes.  24 You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God’s likeness—righteous, holy, and true.  (NLT)

Matthew 16:24  Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

STEP TWO – A SPIRITUAL WALK WITH CHRIST REQUIRES A _______________ ____ ___________.

If anyone would come after me, he must ____________ himself and take up his ____________ and follow me. (Jesus)

  • Jesus is actually calling us to give up the throne of our life and allow ____________ and ________ __________ to guide our life.
  • To take up your cross means that we die to:
    1. The need for the ___________________ of others
    1. The world’s definition of __________________

STEP THREE – A SPIRITUAL WALK WITH CHRIST REQUIRES _______________________ HIM.

1 Peter 2:21  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should _____________  in his steps.

John 8:31  Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you _____________ in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine…”

Isaiah 66:2  But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.

  • The proof that we are following Christ is that we ____________ and ____________ God’s Word.
  • Incorporate the ________________ into your everyday life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  1. Take it in. ____________ the Bible every day.
  1. Remember it. Memorize specific verses.
  1. Think about it. ___________________ on specific verses.
  1. Put it into practice. Do what it tells me to do.
  1. Be _______________________. Do all of this over a long period of time.

  • Once we have been willing to open our hearts to the truth, we are now responsible to leave the _________ ___________
Ephesians 4:20-22  …But that isn’t what you were taught when you learned about Christ.  21 Since you have heard all about him and have learned the truth that is in Jesus,  22 throw off your old evil nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and through, full of lust and deception.
Ephesians 4:23  …There must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes.
Joshua 1:8  This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

A PERSON WHO ACCEPTS CHRIST HAS ____________ THE DECISION TO BE _______________________ BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN HIMSELF.

WE WERE MADE TO _______________.
