INTRODUCTION

“Buy one hot dog for the price of two and receive the second hot dog absolutely free.”

“For sale:  Deep fryer, big enough for two people.”

“We do not tear your laundry with machinery.  We do it by hand.”

2 Kings 5:1  Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the LORD had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.

1. THE STORY OF NAAMAN HELPS US TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW GOD IS AT WORK IN OUR LIFE.

A. God is Sovereign over all His creation.

B. 2 Kings 5:10-12  Elisha sent a messenger to say to Naaman, “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.”  11 But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy.  12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?”  So he turned and went off in a rage.

1. James 4:6  God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

2. Naaman had a choice.  He could either die in his pride, or he could die to his pride.

3. 2 Kings 5:13-14  Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it?  How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!”  14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.

C. Principles that God uses…

1. God allows a God-sized need to come into our life for the purpose of driving us to Him.

2. God gives us a promise to meet the need that has attached to it a condition that has to be met by obedience whether it makes sense to us or not.  Oftentimes that condition will require us to humble ourselves and depend upon God, not ourselves.

3. When we humbly obey God by faith and meet the condition to the promise, God then meets our need in a way and time that accomplishes the greatest good in our life.

D. When God intersects into your life and meets your need in a way that you can’t meet because you decided to obey Him, that is called Power Living!

2. These three principles work in the area of giving BACK to the Lord.

A. The Bible teaches that we are to give back to the Lord our tithe and offerings.  Offerings are gifts which are above our tithe.

1. Deuteronomy 14:23   The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives. (TLB)

2. God allows a God-sized need to come into our life for the purpose of driving us to Him.

B. God gives us a promise to meet the need that has attached to it a condition that has to be met.

1. Malachi 3:10  “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

2. Luke 6:38  For if you give, it will be given back to you! Your gift will return to you in a full and overflowing measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use to give—large or small—will be used to measure what is given back to you.” (TLB)

C. When we humbly obey God by faith and meet the condition to the promise, God then meets our needs in a way and time that accomplishes the greatest good in our life.

Action Steps I will take this week …

* I will see my needs as opportunities to draw me closer to God.

* I will seek for a promise from God to meet my need and humble myself to depend upon Him.

* My response to God’s Word will be “Yes, Lord” all week long.
