INTRODUCTION

  • The church of Jesus and the Kingdom of God often makes its greatest advancement in times of chaos, upheaval and uncertainty.
  • It is time for the church to rise up because light is most needed in the dark and hope is most longed for in despair.
  • Psalm 85:6 Will you not revive us again so that your people may rejoice in you?
  • Revival is a move of God where he recalibrates the heart of a Christian. Revival is a return to God. In a revival, we are more aware of God’s presence resulting in repentance, worship, mutual love and evangelism.
  • Psalm 85:1-3 You, Lord, showed favor to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob.2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. 3 You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger.
  • We should not always equate God’s blessings with his nearness.

Diagnostic Questions for Personal Revival

1. Have I become overly busy that I have stopped prioritizing my time with God?

  • Psalm 63:1 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
  • 1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.
  • Psalm 19:7a The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.

2. Have I been excusing away sins in my life?

  • Isaiah 59:1-2 Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
  • Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
  • 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

3. Am I harboring hatred or unforgiveness toward someone?

  • Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
  • James 2:12-13 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

4. Have I become indifferent about people who are without a relationship with Jesus?

  • Romans 9:2-4a I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, 4 the people of Israel.

5. Have I been closer to God at some time in the past than I am now?

We can’t organize a revival, but we can agonize for one.

We can’t produce a revival, but we can prepare for it.
