1. INTRODUCTION

A. “Where there is no hope for the future, there is no power for the present.” (John Maxwell)

B. The resurrection of Jesus proved that what He had said about God and about Himself and about how to reach heaven was absolutely true!

C. Luke 24:13-24  Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.   14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.   15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus Himself came up and walked along with them;  16 but they were kept from recognizing Him.   17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” They stood still, their faces downcast.   18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?”  (NIV)

2. JESUS PURSUES US EVEN WHEN WE ARE RUNNING THE OTHER WAY.

This morning, Jesus is pursuing you and wants a relationship with you.

3. JESUS OFFERS TO BE THE HOPE OF OUR LIFE AND FUTURE.

A. What has happened in Jerusalem that has you all upset?  (Luke 24:19)

B. Luke 24:21  We had hoped that He was going to redeem Israel. But, all of that is gone, Jesus is dead.

The word redeem means to buy back.

C. Hebrews 4:15  Jesus understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. (NLT)

4. JESUS CAN OPEN OUR EYES AND MAKE OUR HEART COME ALIVE.

A.    Luke 24:25  Jesus said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!”

B.    Luke 24:32  They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
