It’s once again planning time for Urban Camp! Last year God moved in a powerful way to impact the lives of the young people in our charge as we celebrated 26 years of ministry. Your commitment to facilitate as a ministry partner or Huddle Leader will be an essential element in making connections with our campers. We pray that God will use you in His perfect way to make Urban Camp | 2018 a life changing experience for the children God will send for us to serve!
This year’s theme is “I follow, I LEAD”! Anchor scripture is 1 Corinthians 11:1 “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”
We’ve all heard the old saying, “Don’t be a follower, be a leader.” However, a leader must have a lead to follow. And not just any lead to follow, but the perfect lead to follow, Christ. In today’s culture of social media, our youth are pressured to become followers of trends laden with distraction and immorality. How do we cultivate and empower our youth to become bold leaders for Christ. What are the qualities of a leader who is led by Christ? What does it take to be a godly leader?
During camp last summer, many campers openly expressed their desires to be recognized as leaders, in their schools, communities, and among their peers. As leaders among their peers, our youth directly influence the ideology, culture, and relevance of what trends are important within their generation. And, while influence is a great characteristic of an effective leader, the most important factor is… What influences, the influence of a godly leader? It may be intimidating to model Christ, but God equips us for the challenge. As we humbly draw close to Him, He will help us to radiate His love to the world. And even when we fall short of the example that we strive to follow; in Christ we have forgiveness and a fresh start!
We pray our focus at camp will equip campers to understand the truth of God’s Word; that they are in fact created by a loving God, on purpose, and for a purpose, which He prepared in advance!
Day One | Follow – Follower of Christ | 1 COR 11:1, 1 Peter 2:22
Day Two | Led – Led by relationship not rules, leadership through our identity in Christ (reconciliation = adoption) | 2 COR 5:14 – 15
Day Three | Lead – Ambassador, Christ dwelling in you, working through you (act like what you are) | 2 COR 5:20
As we embark on our twenty seventh year of Urban Camp ministry, we enter a season of filled with exciting new elements! During the summer of 2018, we will unify all campers grades 4th – 10th to attend camp collectively. However, with this new change, campers will continue to engage in separate programming based on our existing age configurations and gender. Meaning, 4th – 6th grade campers will participate in our Coed Youth Program, while 7th – 10th grade campers participate separately, in our Advanced Girls Program and our Advanced Boys Program. Both programs will continue to share the same venue, but function with independent schedules, activities, huddle sessions, Keynote Speakers, and Worship.
With this collective dynamic and our return to Carolina Creek Christian camp venue, we are excited to see how God will move and transform the lives of each camper. Carolina Creek Christian Camp – Creekside in Huntsville, Texas will be a new venue experience for our 4th – 6th grade Coed Youth Program campers this year, previous camps were held at Carolina Creek – Lakeview. We look forward to hearing God’s Word shared in the context of unconditional love. We look forward to seeing the Holy Spirit at work, as the truth of God’s word is shared with campers this summer.
