1. THE STORY OF JOB.  (Job 1)

A. Job 1:1-3  In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters, 3 and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.  (NIV)

B. Job 1:6-10  One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. 7 The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.”  8 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”  9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.”  (NIV

C. Satan can’t touch us without God’s permission and if he gets God’s permission it is because there is a positive purpose God has in mind.

D. Do we love God only for what we get out of Him or do we love God because of Who He is?

A. Job 1:20-22  Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship. 21 He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!” 22 In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God.  (NLT)

B. Job 2:10 Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?

C. It is suffering that shows us who we really are and what we truly love.

A. Job 19:14, 19  My family is gone, and my close friends have forgotten me. 19 My close friends detest me. Those I loved have turned against me.  (NLT)

B. Job 13:15  Though God slay me, yet will I trust Him. (NKJV)

A. The God of the Universe is Sovereign.

1. “Job, there are some things that you don’t understand about life, at least not yet.  I have plans and purposes you don’t know about. But I will always ultimately have your best in mind.  Trust me to do the right thing in the right way, even when it doesn’t seem to be right to you.”  (God)

2. Isaiah 55:9  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.  (NKJV)

B. God wants us to rise above the unkindness of others.

1. Job 42:10, 12  And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends.  (NKJV)

2. Luke 6:35  Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for He is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. (NLT2)

C. God will meet our needs at a time and in a way He knows is best for us.

1. Job 42:10, 12  And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. 12 Now the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning… (NKJV)

2. Romans 8:31-32, 38-39  What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?  38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NKJV)

3. The challenge before us is to finally come to this conclusion – that no matter what we face, God is enough.
