WHO WE ARE: A PEOPLE ON MISSION

Part 1 – Where Do We Start?
(Isaiah 6:1-8)

Dr. Mark S. Hartman, Lead Pastor

1. WHO WE ARE BEGINS WITH GOD.

A. Isaiah 6:1-4   In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:  “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

B. God is our Security.

1. Isaiah 6:1  In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.

2. Psalm 18:2  The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. (NLT)

C. God Reigns over all.

Psalm 103:19  The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.

D. God is Holy.

1. Isaiah 6:2-3  Above Him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:  “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

2. The chief attribute of God is purity.

2. ONLY WHEN WE SEE GOD FOR WHO HE IS, CAN WE SEE OURSELVES FOR WHO WE ARE AND BE RESCUED.

A. Isaiah 6:4-5  At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.  5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

B. Isaiah 6:6-7  Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.  7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

C. John 1:12  …To all who believed in Jesus and accepted Him, He gave the right to be called the children of God.

D. Isaiah 6:8  Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send?  And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

3. THE ONLY APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE IS TO SAY YES TO HIS CALL.

A. God’s plan is not only to save us; He wants to send us.

1. 2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is patient…not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2. 1 Timothy 2:4  …God wants all men (people) to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

B. Isaiah 6:8  Isaiah replied, “Here am I, Lord, send me.”
