INTRODUCTION

A.   To love and lead all people to life change in Christ.
B.   Matthew 5:14-16    “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.   15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.   16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

1.    WHAT DOES BEING “LIGHT” HAVE TO DO WITH US?

A.   Ephesians 4:17-18  With the Lord’s authority let me say this: Live no longer as the ungodly do, for they are hopelessly confused.  18 Their closed minds are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against Him.
B.   John 12:46  I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should stay in darkness.
C.   Matthew 5:14  You are the light of the world.
D.   Acts 26:18  And Paul said, ‘God has called me to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins.’

2.         WHY SHOULD WE CARE?

A.   A person who dies without Christ spends eternity in hell.

1.    John 3:18  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
2.    Revelation 20:15  If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into Hell.

B.    Jesus described a place called hell in Luke 16:19-31

1.    Hell is eternal.
Revelation 14:11  The smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever.  There is no rest day or night for those…
2.    Hell is a place of fear.
3.    Hell is a place of pain.
4.    Hell is a place of sadness.
5.    Hell is a place of separation.

3.    WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

A.   Matthew 5:14-16  You are the light of the world.  A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
B.   We shine by breaking out of our exclusively Christian circles.
C.   We shine by being real.
Philippians 2:14-15  Do all that has to be done without complaining or arguing and you will shine in the world like bright stars as you offer it the Word of Life.
D.   We shine by verbally sharing Christ.
