1. Worship starts with a realization of who God is.

Isaiah 6:1-3 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!  (ESV)

a. God is Sovereign

b. God is Almighty

c. God is Holy.

True worship begins with an encounter with God that helps us understand He is the One true God.

2. Worship is fueled by a realization of who we are.

Isaiah 6:4-5 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!  (ESV)

a. Impure lips = Impure heart.

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

b. We are all sinners.

True worship requires us to understand our brokenness and inability to save ourselves.

3. Worship is the result of our understanding of what the Gospel IS.

Isaiah 6:6-7 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.  (ESV)

a. Jesus came to do for us what we could not do for ourselves.

b. 2 Corinthians 5:21  For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

True worship happens when we understand who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

4. Worship is understanding what our mission is AND GIVING OURSELVES AWAY FOR THAT MISSION.

Isaiah 6:8  And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.  (ESV)

a. The way to respond to the gospel is complete surrender.

b. The invitation to follow Jesus is also an invitation to live for Jesus.

True worship is giving ourselves away so others can experience what we have in Jesus.
