1. IS JESUS WHO HE SAID TO BE?
John 10:17- 18 - For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Books that explain the validity of the evidence of a real resurrection: Gilbert West, 1750; George Lyttleton, 1770; Simon Greenleaf, 1850; Frank Morrison, 1900 (Who Moved The Stone?); Gary Habermas, 1976 (The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus); Lee Strobel, 1998 (The Case for Christ), just to name a few. (Books still in publication).
A. Because He lives, Jesus is who He said to be.
John 11:25-26 - Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
B. Because He lives, Jesus has power over all things.
Matthew 28:18 - “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me…”
C. Because He lives, we can trust He does what He promises.
Mark 10:34 - And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”
2. IS DEATH REALLY THE END OF OUR STORY?
A. Because He lives, Jesus proved death is not the end of our story.
John 11:25–26, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.”
1 Corinthians 15:54b–55, “Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
B. Because He lives, we can have eternal life.
John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
3. IS IT POSSIBLE TO FACE TOMORROW WITH CONFIDENCE?
John 20:19–20 - “On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.”
A. Because He lives, Jesus provides confidence for the future.
Isaiah 41:10 - “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
B. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow.
John 16:33 - I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
