List out Your Top Priorities in Life:

16 And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?” 17 And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 Then he said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; 19 Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man *said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.  Matthew 19:16-22

1. ENCOUNTERING JESUS CAUSES ME TO RETHINK MY PRIORITIES.

Questions That Reveal our Priorities:

a. Rhetoric Question: What do I talk about?

b. Reputation Question: What am I known for?

c. Reoccurring Thoughts Question: What do I think about often?

d. Resources Question: How do I manage time, talent, and treasure?

2. TRULY ENCOUNTERING JESUS RESULTS IN HIM BECOMING MY ONLY DESIRE.

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If you truly want to follow me, you should at once completely reject and disown your own life. And you must be willing to share my cross and experience it as your own,  as you continually surrender to my ways. 25 For if you choose self-sacrifice and lose your lives for my glory, you will continually discover true life. But if you choose to keep your lives for yourselves, you will forfeit what you try to keep. 26 For even if you were to gain all the wealth and power of this world—at the cost of your own life—what good would that be? And what could be more valuable to you than your own soul?  Matthew 16: 24-26

3. IT IS DANGEROUS TO PURSUE ANYTHING OTHER THAN FAITHFULLY FOLLOWING CHRIST.

23 And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?” 26 And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. “Matthew 19:23-26

Common Pursuits:

a. Self Sufficiency

b. Pleasure

c. Status

4. WHEN I MAKE JESUS MY ONLY PRIORITY, EVERYTHING ELSE WILL OVERFLOW.

29 For anyone who has left behind their home and property, leaving family—brothers or sisters, mothers or fathers, or children—for my sake, they will be repaid a hundred times over and will inherit eternal life. 30  “But many who push themselves to be first will find themselves last. And those who are willing to be last will find themselves to be first.”  Matthew 19:29-30

Not My List God’s Way, God’s List God’s Way!
