Part 8 | The Last Battle

Daniel 11:40-45; Revelation 19:17-21 | March 1, 2026

Dr. Mark S. Hartman, Lead Pastor - SCBC

God revealed that we are not fighting for victory; we are fighting from victory.

1. WHAT IS THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON?

A. Daniel 11:40 At the time of the end, the king of the south shall attack him, but the king of the north shall rush upon him like a whirlwind, with chariots and horsemen, and with many ships. And he shall come into countries and shall overflow and pass through.

B. The Battle of Armageddon will be the last battle between good and evil.

C. Revelation 16:14,16  They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.  16 Then they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

D. Revelation 19:17-21  Then I saw the beast (Antichrist) and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the Rider on the horse(Jesus Christ) and His army (Christ followers).  20  But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.  21 The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the Rider on the horse…

2. WHO WILL BE INVOLVED IN THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON?

A. Daniel 11:41-43 He shall come into the glorious land. And tens of thousands shall fall, but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom and Moab and the main part of the Ammonites. He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. He shall become ruler of the treasures of gold and of silver, and all the precious things of Egypt, and the Libyans and the Cushites shall follow in his train.

B. The Battle of Armageddon will involve many nations fighting in Israel.

C. Revelation 19:19  Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the Rider on the horse (Jesus Christ) and His army (Christ followers).

D. Globalization is the process by which all the people of the world are unified into a single society and function together.

E. Zechariah 12:2-3 I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling.  Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem.  3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.

3. WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON?

A. Daniel 11:44 But news from the east and the north shall alarm him, and he shall go out with great fury to destroy and devote many to destruction.

B. The goal of the Battle of Armageddon will be the Antichrist’s attempt to bring the final destruction of the Jewish people.

C. Stage 1 –The Destruction of Babylon (Isaiah 13:19; Jeremiah 50:40; Revelation 17, 18)

D. Stage 2 – The assembling of the Antichrist and his allies (Joel 3:9-11; Psalm 2:1-6; Revelation 16:12-16)

E. Stage 3 – The Second Coming of Jesus Christ (Isaiah 34:1-7; 63:1-6; Habakkuk 3:3; Micah 2:12-13; Jude 14-15; Revelation 19:11-16)

1. First, Jesus appears at Bozrah and defeats the armies gathered there.  Historical Bozrah is present day Jordan.

2. Second, Jesus goes to the Valley of Jezreel, the place of Megiddo where we usually think of the Battle of Armageddon taking place.

Isaiah 11:4 ...God shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips he shall slay the wicked.

Revelation 19:21 The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the Rider on the horse (Jesus)...

3. Third, Jesus goes to Jerusalem where He engages the Antichrist directly in what is known symbolically as the Valley of Jehoshaphat.

a. 2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of His mouth and destroy by the splendor of His coming. (NIV)

b. Zechariah 14:12  This is the plague with which the LORD will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.

H. Stage 4 – Jesus will stand victorious on the Mount of Olives and split it in two.

Zechariah 14:3-4 Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle.  4 On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. (NIV)

4. HOW WILL THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON END?

A. Daniel 11:45b Yet he shall come to his end, with none to help him.

B. Zechariah 12:10  And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication.  They will look on Me, the One they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only Child, and grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

C. Romans 11:25-29  I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited:  Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles (the Church) has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.  27 And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.’  28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, 29 for God's gifts and his call are irrevocable.

History does not end with the world in chaos. It ends with Christ as King.
