Part 7 | How Do We Get There?
John 14:1-6 | June 28, 2026
Dr. Mark S. Hartman, Lead Pastor – SCBC

1. HEAVEN IS REAL. (John 14:1-3)
A. John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (KJV)
B. Jesus is promising us a home; a place where we belong. A place where death is gone and we are with Him and with others we know and love forever.
C. 1 Corinthians 2:9 No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.
2. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO HEAVEN. (John 14:4-6)
A. John 14:4-6 ‘And where I go you know, and the way you know.’ 5 Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?’ 6 Jesus said to him, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’
B. Every religion in the world is built around directions. They tell people what they must do, what rules they must keep, what rituals they must perform, or what path they must follow. All of them are wrong. Jesus said something radically different. He said that salvation is not found in a list of rules or rituals. It is found in Jesus Christ and Him alone.
C. Jesus claims exclusivity. He does not say He is one way among many. He does not say He is the best way. He says He is the only way.
3. NO RELIGION WILL GET ME TO HEAVEN.
A. All religions have the same view – we get to heaven by being good. All religions teach that we are never sure when we have done enough good things to get there. Biblical Christianity says both of those ideas are totally wrong.
B. Jesus taught that we are saved by trusting in Christ alone for our salvation. He has already paid the debt of our sin, and we are saved by turning from our sins and trusting fully in Him.
C. Religion says, “Work your way to God.” Christianity says, “God came to you.” Religion says, “Earn acceptance.” Christianity says, “Receive God’s grace.” Every religion says, “Do.” Jesus says, “Done.”
The resurrection is irrefutable evidence that we can trust what Jesus promised.
