Part 2 | God's Design

Genesis 2 | July 26th, 2026

God didn’t design us for an intimate moment, He designed us for an intimate life.

Intimacy is the experience of being fully known and fully loved.

  • Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

1. WE WERE DESIGNED FOR INTIMACY WITH OUR CREATOR.

There are some needs that only God can satisfy.

2. WE WERE DESIGNED FOR INTIMACY WITH OUR COMMUNITY.

  • Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.

God wants you known and loved by the people around you.

  • Hebrews 10:24-25 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

3. WE WERE DESIGNED FOR COVENANT INTIMACY.

  • Genesis 2:24–25 24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. 25 Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.
  • Ephesians 5:31–32 31 As the Scriptures say, ‘A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.”

A. Marriage is meant to reflect the love Christ has for His church.

B. Sex requires covenant, not just chemistry.

C. Sex says with the body what marriage says with the life.

Chemistry can happen in a moment but intimacy is built over a lifetime.
