Part 8 | GENTLENESS: The Strength That Restores

Galatians 6:1-5 | October 4th, 2026

Ender Palencia, Pastor of Multisite and Missions – SCBC

  • Galatians 5:22–23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Gentleness is using the strengths God gives us to help restore people when they fall.

1. Gentleness pursues restoration instead of seeking retaliation.

  • Galatians 6:1 - Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.
  • Matthew 7:3–5 - “Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

A. Before confronting someone about their sin, check your own heart.

2. Gentleness stands with the broken instead of standing above them.

  • Galatians 6:2-3 - Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 - Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!

A. Don’t just point out the burden; help carry it.

3. Gentleness accepts responsibility instead of assigning blame.

  • Galatians 6:4-5 - But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5 For each will have to bear his own load.
  • Proverbs 28:13 – Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

A. Own your mistakes even if others don’t own theirs.

  • Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

We can be gentle with others because Jesus was gentle with us.
