The Greek word for 'want' in John 17:24 expresses deep longing, showing that forgiveness and justification are means to the ultimate end: intimate connection with Christ Himself.Many find this difficult to accept because past relationships have taught us that love must be earned, acceptance is performance-based, and we're never quite good enough. These experiences create a distorted lens through which we view God, assuming He merely tolerates rather than delights in us. Jesus further prays that we would see His glory, indicating that heaven's greatest reward isn't its amenities but the presence of the Savior. The love Jesus offers isn't the conditional love we're accustomed to—it's the eternal, committed love that exists within the Trinity. Unlike human relationships where we prove devotion through sacrifice, God demonstrated His love by offering what was most precious to Him: His Son. This transforms how we view both our relationship with God and our relationships with others.
