Stories of Change

Kyleigh's Story of Healing

Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges at us, and for Kyleigh, navigating these was particularly hard. This is Kyleigh story of overcoming adversity with the help of Sugar Creek Student Ministry.

A Rocky Start
Kyleigh's life took a drastic turn after her dad lost his job. The family had to relocate to Austin for his new position, and soon after, her brother joined the Marines, leaving her with no contact for two months. To top it off, her sister was busy preparing for a Division 1 softball career. With these major life changes, Kyleigh, her mom, and her sister moved in with her aunt and uncle. In the midst of this upheaval, Kyleigh felt overwhelmed and inadequate. She struggled with feelings of worthlessness, particularly in comparison to her high-achieving siblings. It was during this turbulent period that Kyleigh personal battle began to intensify, leading her to develop an eating disorder.

A Critical Turning Point
Kyleigh's struggle with her eating disorder became severe. It reached a crisis point before a softball game when her dad had to rush her to the emergency room. The doctor’s words were sobering: if she didn’t make a change, Kyleigh wouldn’t last much longer. This wake-up call marked the beginning of a slow and challenging path to recovery. While Kylie started to make some changes, her healing process was gradual and far from complete.

Finding Hope and Support
But Kyleigh found help and support from a place she hadn’t anticipated—the Sugar Creek Student Ministry. Walking through those doors, she felt an immediate sense of belonging. The community at Sugar Creek provided not just comfort but a transformative experience. Through the ministry, Kyleigh began to understand her intrinsic worth and the love and support of a higher power. Kyleigh says, “God’s impacted my life through the Sugar Creek ministry by transforming the way I really believe. He’s helped me to see that no matter what I’m going through, I’m beautifully and wonderfully made. Through all the obstacles of my life, He’s been there for me.”
